"The source is listed below in the copy of an email I received from a volunteer at the Belfast HIstorical society who I contacted with the request of whether a parish record existed for William. (This was becaue the previous record I sent you was an extraction, and I hoped the original parish record was available.) You will see that the record (an extraction by a Queen's universtiy professor of history) explains why we have so many discrepancies in family records over what William's birth date was. All we can verify is that he was christened either July 20 or 27. (This jives with Uncle Grant Lee who did the research for the Lee Family.) I'm still trying to reconcile why we think he was born in Carrickfergus if he was christened in Belfast. Pleae let me know if you come across any confirming evidence."

Buried Barlow Cemetery, Barlow, Oregon. Samuel married 2nd Elizabeth Shepard, but was divorced. "The Barlows are recognized in Oregon as Pioneers of 1845. Samuel developed a road through the mountains and into Oregon City that became the overland terminus of the Oregon Trail. It became known as the Barlow Road, which still carries considerable renown. Local schools can be found named for one or the other of the Barlows. There is a small town of Barlow south of Canby, founded by William Barlow, their oldest son. A local chapter of the Dar adopted the name of Susannah Lee Barlow as their chapter name. A monument to her can be found in Government Camp, along what used to be the Barlow Road" Letter from Gale Carson GGGrand Son To Grant Lee of Boise, Idaho October 21, 2004.
"The Barlows settled in Oregon City and in Mollala, to the south. Their eldest son, William, established the town of Barlow. He built his home on the outskirts of Barlow, now at the southern edge of Canby on the main highway. The Barlow House was owned privately by Virginia Miller, who thought of herself as a reincarnation of William's wife Martha, and had carefully restored and preserved the house. Until recently it was shown by appointment; but I'm not sure if that is still true. Samuel and Susannah Barlow had seven children, two of whom died yound in the Midwest, but all the rest made it to Oregon, and of those all but one settled in or around Oregon City." Letter from Gale Carson to Grant Lee of Boise 14 July 2004. Samuel married 2nd Elizabeth Shepard, but was divorced.

Daughter Sarah Lee born 1 August 1794 Greenville, Greenville, South Carolina, married George Matlock who died about 1846, and had George Matlock, Matilda Matlock, Susan Matlock, and Nancy Matlock. Sarah married Thompson and had no further children. Sarah died 23 July 1877, buried Barlow Cemetery, Oregon.
What happened to her 1st husband George Matlock?
"Samuel
K. Barlow, an early settler in the township, and who laid out the
original town plat of Bridgeport on land of John Furnas, located a short
distance south of that village, in the northwest part of Decatur.
He was always regarded as well behaved and peace-able, yet he had the misfortune to become the slayer of a man named Matlack, who was his brother-in-law. It appears that upon the fatal occasion he visited Matlack's house (in Hendricks County), and upon seeing Matlack attempt to whip his wife with a cow-hide. Barlow interfered for the protection of the woman, and in the fight which ensued Matlack was killed. For the homicide Barlow was confined along time in the Hendricks County jail, and finally brought to trial, which resulted in his acquittal, but the cost of his defense was so heavy that he was compelled to sell his property to pay it. He then removed from Decatur to Iowa, and afterwards to Oregon. He even was appointed justice of the peace in Clackamas county. The Barlow pass is named after him & the town of Barlow, Oregon is named after his son, William. Source: History of Indianapolis and Marion County, Indiana. (page 95 of 122)" ![]()
